Your credit record
is a file, not a score
you were given

Crown Credit Finance Limited lends from Ashley Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. We are not a bank; we take no deposits and issue no cards.

Every lender you approach will look at a record of your borrowing. Very few borrowers have ever seen that record, and almost none know how long anything stays on it. That gap is where a whole industry of "credit repair" operates — selling, for a fee paid in advance, something that cannot lawfully be done.

You may obtain itYou are entitled to your own credit report. Read it before you apply anywhere, not after being declined.
Accurate entries cannot be removedThey age out on their own schedule. Nobody can shorten it for money.
Errors can be correctedDisputing a genuine mistake is free and is done by you, directly.

What sits on the file, and how long

Set out in general terms — retention periods are fixed by the applicable rules rather than by any lender, and they change over time. The pattern is what matters: the worse the entry, the longer its shadow. Check the current position with the credit reference agency itself.

Who you are
Name, identity document number, date of birth, addresses. The identifying layer, kept for as long as you have any credit history at all.
Persistent
Accounts you hold
Facilities, limits and outstanding balances, reported by lenders. This is the section that shows a new lender how much you already owe elsewhere.
While open, and after
Repayment behaviour
Whether payments arrived on time, month by month. Consistency here does more for you over years than any single application ever will.
Years
Enquiries you made
Applications you submitted. A cluster in a short window reads as distress and makes approval less likely, which is the opposite of what applicants intend.
Shorter period
Defaults and write-offs
Accounts that went wrong. These carry the most weight with any lender and stay materially longer than an ordinary settled account.
Longest
Bankruptcy and legal action
Public matters of record. Visible for an extended period and, in practice, decisive for most applications while they remain.
Longest
The practical reading: nothing on this list is improved by borrowing more. It is improved by time and by payments that arrive when they said they would. Anybody promising to accelerate that for a fee is describing a service that does not exist.

Six things sold to people with a damaged record

All six are offered constantly, usually to those least able to lose the money. None has a legitimate version.

"We can delete your bad record"

Accurate information cannot lawfully be removed on request, by anyone, at any price. What can be corrected is an error — and you can dispute that yourself, free, without an agent.

"Pay us and we will fix your score first"

A fee taken in advance, for work that will not happen. The same advance-fee pattern as every loan scam in this market, aimed at people already short of money.

"Take this loan to rebuild your credit"

New borrowing does not repair a record; repaying existing borrowing does. A loan taken for this reason usually adds an obligation to a household that was already stretched.

"Apply everywhere, one will approve you"

Enquiries are visible. A burst of applications makes each subsequent lender more cautious, not less. Obtain your report, then apply once or twice, deliberately.

"Use a friend's name for the application"

That is a false application and it makes the friend the debtor. It ends two ways: they pay for money you spent, or the matter becomes something considerably more serious than a declined loan.

"We have a contact who can approve anything"

There is no such contact. This is the standard opening for an advance fee, and every money lender's advertisement here carries a warning about intermediaries precisely because of it.

What actually works

Slower and free, which is why nobody sells it.

01

Read your own file first

Obtain your credit report before approaching any lender. You will know what will be seen, whether anything is wrong, and whether you should be applying at all this month.

02

Dispute errors yourself

If an entry is genuinely inaccurate, raise it directly with the credit reference agency and the lender that reported it. This costs nothing and requires no intermediary.

03

Let payments accumulate

Consistent on-time repayment on existing obligations is the only thing that reliably improves a file. It is unglamorous, it takes months, and it is the whole method.

What we lend

Personal instalment

A fixed sum over a fixed term with a written schedule. The final payment date is known on the day you sign.

Small business

Working capital for owner-run businesses, sized against a quiet month rather than a strong one.

Consolidation

Only where the total cost genuinely falls and the earlier accounts actually close. Anything else is an additional loan with a better name.

Declined

Applications made in one person's name for another's benefit, applications where the money is going to another lender's instalment, and anything arriving through a person expecting a fee from the borrower.

No rate appears on this page. Any single figure would be wrong for nearly everyone reading it. You will be given the effective annual rate calculated on the basis the Ordinance specifies, the total amount repayable and the complete schedule, in writing, before signature. The statutory ceiling is an effective rate of 60% per annum — a ceiling, not a target, and lawful is not the same as affordable.

Questions

i.Will applying to you damage my record?

An application is recorded as an enquiry, as it would be anywhere. One or two considered applications are unremarkable. A dozen in a fortnight is the thing that causes harm, which is why we suggest reading your own report first and then applying deliberately rather than broadly.

ii.I was declined. Will you tell me why?

We will tell you the general basis, and if the decision rested on information from a credit reference agency we will say so, so that you can obtain your own report and check it. If something on that report is wrong, correcting it is free and is done by you directly.

iii.Does closing old accounts help?

Not automatically, and sometimes the opposite: a long-held account repaid reliably is evidence in your favour. What genuinely helps is reducing what you owe and paying on schedule. Closing accounts is a tidying exercise, not a repair.

iv.Someone offered to clear my record for a fee.

Do not pay it. Accurate entries cannot lawfully be removed by anyone. If money has already been sent, report it to the police, and do not send more in an attempt to recover it — that second payment is what such schemes exist to obtain.

v.How do I check you are licensed?

The register of money lenders is maintained by the Companies Registry and searchable free through its e-Services portal. Look up the exact legal name yourself rather than trusting a number printed in an advertisement or quoted in a message.

vi.What if I cannot make a payment?

Telephone before the due date rather than after. Options while an account is current are much wider, and it is the missed payment reported afterwards that sits on your file for years. If any lender responds to arrears with threats or harassment, that is a matter for the police.
